Your mileage may certainly vary, but FWIW, I'm hardly alone. Hell's Kitchen got the most positive reviews of any new musical this season except Illinoise (which barely has a book) and Days of Wine and Roses.
As for the quality of Diaz's book: I don't think it will win any playwriting prizes but it does its job well and compares favorably, in my opinion, to the books I didn't include in my list—all of which have flaws of their own. Which would you have included in its stead? |
