I can tell you that no matter what advanced sales for Assassins did or didn't tell them... the house was full or practically full all the time. Any other show filling houses like that, after just winning the most Tonys that seasons (5)... would not have closed when Assassins did... unless the financials were just untenable and there weren't enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Other elements at play were moving to a Broadway production contract from the much cheaper non-profit contract they get to use in their scheduled run... as well as a scheduled renovation in time for their next show, the revival of Pacific Overtures.

But i have no doubt that if Trump wins, Goodnight and Good Luck will absolutely still move forward. In fact, I think it will sell much better and get many more headlines if it does happen that way.
I don't think the content of the movie, at least, is even comparable to that of Assassins in terms of what the RNC wouldn't want performing. I also think the current Republican powers are much less worried about things like what is playing on Broadway.
