Wow. That's quite the back-to-back indeed. So sad I was out of town for the Patti/Seth shows. Hopefully they'll bring them back sometime.

How was Bernadette? I saw her the prior week in Orange County with a small chamber ensemble. While her upper register remained lovely and her beauty and innate comic timing showed no signs of waning, she was struggling vocally through most numbers. I've kept hoping that it was just an off night or that she had a cold or something. In OC she sang 'The Way That It Was' from Merrily and introduced it as one of the songs she'd be singing in the upcoming 'A Bed & Chair' Sondheim review. Her take wasn't particularly... jazzy, so will be interesting to see how that sound evolves. Was 'Ladies Who Lunch' also introduced as being from this forthcoming show?

Interesting that she mentioned the upcoming show in OC; she didn't mention it at all on Saturday. She was a little scratchy in some spots still but overall was in fine voice. Upper register was great. She did a run up the scale at one point with no break or rough spots at all, very impressive. Took most songs under tempo (very Doris Day of her) and the show was great. But the slow tempo did not work with "Ladies Who Lunch"--it worked for the first half of the song but prevented the song from building the way it has to.
Patti and Seth were great. Lots of interesting chat (Patti doesn't like theater producers and she think people in Hollywood are nicer because there's more money flowing...) but the songs were powerhouse. Her performance of "Trouble" was a total delight but her performance of "Meadowlark" didn't resonate as much as I thought it would.

Still, a great evening!!
