I think we are reading the quote differently. I gather you are reading it to refer to the 50 years after the beginning of the restoration, whereas I read it to refer to 50 years after the end. Otherwise, it makes no sense since the end date of the restoration is certainly not "indeterminate."

I understand the issue of calling these pläys "restoration, from a scholarly perspective, but common usage doesn't always follow technical rules. We call shows tragedies that are not tragedies in the technical definition; we call things sit-coms that are not situation comedies, and so on. I'm not suggesting it is a good (or bad) thing, but I think accepting the fact that people often refer to all comedies of manners as restoration plays is not something only Terrence McNally or Lincoln Center has done. I do think it is a scholarly and not a general distinction.
