Yes, we all do have our own pet peeves along these lines. Two of mine, based on outmoded terms: "liner notes" used to refer to the notes included in a CD booklet, and "dialing" a person's phone number, in an age when almost no one still has a rotary dial phone ;-)

I think misuse of "restoration" is different for the very fact that no one would ever use that word in what I would call casual conversation.
