Well, I guess people could say "I keyed in your number but then I had to disconnet..." or "I punched in your number...," but for whatever reason, NOBODY says that and everyone still says "dial" instead, even though it's not a dial.

Regarding "liner notes," the term dates from a time when notes on a recording were actually printed on the liner (or lining) of the LP cover. Now they're included within a booklet that comes with a CD, which isn't a "liner" in any sense of the word, yet they're still called "liner notes."

It will be interesting to see if they're still called "liner notes" when and if hardware media dissemination of music becomes completely obsolete and everything is downloaded, including notes.
