RE "I've never since been interested in McNally's playwrighting [sic]": Along with A.R. Gurney, McNally is the writer I find most inconsistent. Sometimes he astonishes me and sometimes I watch a McNally play in bored disbelief. I think you've missed some good work if you swore off McNally after MASTER CLASS. Since then, SOME MEN and A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE were especially fine and THE STENDHAL SYNDROME was intriguing.
