And the film on which it's based

Really wasn't adored. Liked, enjoyed, but beyond that? I recall its reception, and it was hardly a blip during awards season, after being much anticipated. I found the film a moderate disappointment for me personally, and it features two of my favorite actors on the planet, Albert Finney and Jessica Lange, and Tim Burton at the helm. I wanted to love it, but could only find it mildly diverting, again for the visuals, not the expected emotional content. I'm not blaming the musical's demise on the source material, but it wasn't something in the culture's collective consciousness like, say, "The Adam's Family."
