People — even moderate names like Mastrantonio — don't necessarily get offered that much.

Perhaps after having been away for a while, she thought that it might be a good idea to take a nice supporting role to get her feet wet again.

And to make it clear that "Hey, I'm available for theatre. And I don't necessarily need a lead."

People want to work.

For someone like Cumpsty, it's good to keep the muscles working, and a salary is always nice. As they say, there are no small roles . . .

Although, of course, there are.
