Broadway shows last week beat out the previous year’s grosses for Thanksgiving week by $4.5 million (32 shows in 2013; 31 shows in 2012), and attendance was up by 14,612. The average ticket price was $112.13, up $9.48 from a year ago. See full results below.
Three shows grossed over $2 million: “Wicked” at $2,625,327 for 9 performances; “The Lion King” at $2,365,402 for 8; and “The Book of Mormon” at $2,161,225 for 9. “Kinky Boots" came close, grossing $1,912,568 for 8 performances and setting a record at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
“Pippin” recouped its $8.5 million capitalization costs on Sunday at the Music Box Theatre where the musical also broke a couple of house records last week for grosses of individual performances.
The Roundabout’s not-for-profit production of “The Winslow Boy” closed Sunday after playing a limited engagement of 32 previews and 53 regular performances. The play filled about 68% of the seats on average at the American Airlines Theatre.
