Shall I tell you what I think of it? It's garbage

The 1999 animated ''The King and I'' is one of the worst animated movies I've ever seen; it's wretched and racist to boot. Besides butchering the original show, it adds a water serpent, animal sidekicks and a hot-air balloon adventure. Worst of all, it includes a roly-poly, buck-toothed stereotype. Why'd R&H allow this to happen? It's a puzzlement!

It does feature some Broadway talent: Martin Vidnovic, Christiane Noll and David Burnham. But David once admitted to me how awful it is: ''I only saw it once. I couldn't bear to watch it again. But I got an action figure out of it.''
