Without doubt, premium prices make shows that can sell them recoup faster. That's why they're sold.

Equally without doubt, that possibility will motivate some investors to back new projects that they think can become hits.

And not only investors, but also the artists and other members of the theater industry are rewarded.

As to whether this is "saving" Broadway, what has mostly changed is the opportunity to take creative risks due to loss of cheap off-Broadway spaces, increasing production costs, etc. Short of increased government, foundation or philanthropic arts funding, what is the alternative?
