Watching this production with little knowledge of the mores of the time, it seemed to me that the Winslow family was just trying to prove a point -- that Ronnie's lack of due process was unjust. Although in the beginning, they mention that it could be bad for their position in society, over time, it seemed more like a crusade to prove a point. Maybe it started out as one thing and evolved into something else, as so many things do.

Thank you for the description of the movie's climax. I find that to be much more gripping (and clever) than the play's non-climax. Much like the changes in the short-story version of Witness for the Prosecution and the stage version, I think that sometimes the author's getting a second chance to work on the piece can help.
