TRU is a membership organization that is open to everyone but has it's focus on theater producers and self producing theater artists. It has two reading series one for musicals and one for plays. Members can submit for free. Only non members are charged. For this every playwright gets, the play/musical read by multiple individuals some of whom maybe Tony award winning producers (many TRU members won Tony awards this year). And if your play/musical is one of three selected you get a fully paid reading in front of an audience of NY producers, followed by a talkback panel of industry professionals. The last three plays in the musical reading series were all optioned or were in talks to option by NY producers (in one case the musical was optioned by three Tony award winning producers) Is this worth (assuming you have decided not to join an organization where you can network with producers monthly, and listen to expert panels,on subjects like, Money Raising, Marketing your show, Casting, Public Relations etc.) $25? Or is it better to spend $35 and have your play read by members of the O'neill "family"? Every playwright should make that decision for themselves.
