I have to disagree about both Branaugh and Kingston - good actors who made poor choices or perhaps were directed to make poor choices. (For example, the staging of Lady MacBeth's big soliloquy was quite odd. I feared that she would fall which totally took me - and those around me - out of the moment. Same thing when Lady M got too close to the many candles. I thought Alex K was going to go up in flames.)

Also, those witches were so shrill that it didn't matter whether they were speaking Shakespeare's great words or not, their voices made my ears bleed.

I totally agree with you about MacDuff - brilliant! He (Ray Fearon) totally stole the show from the two more famous leads.

As a side note, I also was quite impressed with the young boy who played MacDuff's son. The scene between him and Lady MacDuff were quite compelling and the young lad's command of the material was sensational.

I did find the old church setting to be interesting but those poor audience members seemed to be fainting from the heat. That place must have been hot because audience members were fanning and sweating and overall looking quite uncomfortable. Maybe it was the heat from the thousand candles.
