I fail to understand your logic. If the reality of certain characters and situations is not what they want to depict in a sitcom, why not choose different characters and situations? Why didn't they make Kirstie Alley's character a TV or movie star instead of strictly a Broadway star?

As many people frequently asked about SMASH, why have so many ridiculous, totally unrealistic elements in a TV show when something much closer to reality is at least as interesting, if not more so?
