Or at least August could've collaborated with a veteran book writer. (I wonder if anyone ghosted.) Meehan is definitely one of the very best, and his credits include ''Annie,'' ''The Producers'' and ''Hairspray.'' But no one's infallible. Meehan also worked on the books to ''Chaplin,'' ''Young Frankenstein,'' ''Bombay Dreams,'' ''Ain't Broadway Grand?'' and ''I Remember Mama.''
