I have not seen the show (no civilian has, I think), but couldn't she have gotten loads of money from a previous husband (either after he died or a divorce?). I think it's very plausible that a Broadway star would have had a rich husband at one point.

Or she comes from an acting family, her parents were movie stars, and the wealth is directly inherited.

And the review doesn't say that the 14 Broadway plays are dramas. They could all have been comedies.

I would also agree with the sentiment that looking for realism in a TVLand sitcom is a fruitless task. I could make a comment about her Broadway show opening on Wednesday night rather than Thursday night indicating unnecessary sloppiness on the part of the writers (Wednesday openings occur during the rush to get in before the Tonys deadline, but are pretty unlikely the rest of the year), but then I would be one of those looking for realism in places I shouldn't!
