"Now occasionally, some genius writes a play about more than one character. But not often. Most good plays are about one person, and what that one person needs. Anybody who has ever tried to satisfy two needy children at once, knows it is very hard to pay attention to two sets of needs. In life you sometimes have to do it, but in the theater, you have the luxury of just considering, for two hours, the longing of one heart." She's entitled to her opinion, but this is a draconian stricture, and most playwrights, good or bad, would balk at the severity of this. That said, it's probably valuable to a beginner.
