I fully agree with you. I was responding to the post above which opined that maybe it was comedy. I'm thinking of the Margo Channing in APPLAUSE rather than ALL ABOVE EVE, starring in a comedy. Very much the CACTUS FLOWER sort perhaps that Ms. Bacall was in. This character could well be thought of as that musical Margo. Some drama, but a solid stage comedienne. Perhaps it's just hard to fully embrace in the vinegary demeanor of Ms. Alley. That may just be me.
