I understand, but I think it's a question of degree. I'm not suggesting that Kirstie Alley's character be portrayed as struggling to make ends meet, but why did they have add all those trapping to make her appear so very rich?

For what it's worth, I think it makes sense that most New York apartments depicted in sitcoms and other TV shows should be considerably larger than the average NYC apartment, for the simple reason that it would be very difficult to film/tape on a set that accurately depicted the size of the average apt., plus the fact that larger space allows more interesting blocking.
