Question regarding Actors leaving big hit shows

As someone who is not on the inside of the theater world, I've often wondered why an actor would leave a big hit show relatively early in the run. I've seen Stark Sands in other things, but I have to believe that this is the biggest hit of his career. It is still drawing in huge crowds and being talked about. What could he be moving on to that would be better than this? I hope this post doesn't come off as rude...but I am genuinely curious about this.
