He very well could have a more lucrative movie gig lined up.

And even if he doesn't, a lot of actors just get bored after a year of doing the same show eight times a week. God bless the ones who don't, but I totally understand it when people do.

And if it's the case that he's bored (recognizing that this is entirely speculation), it might also follow that he doesn't want to fall into giving less than his best, freshest performance every time he walks on stage.
