Yes, but first of all, I don't think anyone ever suggested that the Kirstie Alley sitcom is the first unrealistic sitcom.

More importantly, a very wealthy Broadway producer (which that character was) or director is a far more believable figure than an actor or actress who works only on Broadway, because producers and directors earn money from their shows throughout the entire Broadway run, and producers (and sometimes directors) also are paid for subsequent productions, depending on the specific deal and how the contracts were written.
