There was an article on A.V. Club a year or so ago about how, while many of the great sitcoms of the past were blue collar, the working class is largely ignored today in favor of characters who never really seem to worry about how to pay the rent. Raising Hope, starring Broadway's own Martha Plimpton (see what I did there? ;-) is, I think, one of the few exceptions.
