While I totally get your point here, I don't think MODERN FAMILY (starring Broadway's Own Jesse Tyler Ferguson) is the best example you could have cited. Ed O'Neill's character is established as fairly wealthy, so, yes, that one house is a bit over the top. But the house owned by Julie Bowen's and Ty Burrell's characters appears to be a fairly typical four bedroom suburban house in a middle class neighborhood. Burrell's character is supposed to be a successful realtor, so that works for me. Ferguson's and Eric Stonestreet's characters live in a 2 bedroom apartment in what appears to be a converted mansion. Given that Ferguson's character is a lawyer and Stonestreet's is a teacher/coach, it doesn't seem out of the realm, even with Stonestreet's Cameron having taking several years off to stay at home with their little girl.

I don't watch a lot of sitcoms these days, but check out the dream apartment on SEAN SAVES THE WORLD (starring Broadway's Own Sean Hayes, Megan Hilty and Linda Lavin), which is nominally set in Chicago.
