Rewatched the Les Miserable movie today

I'm not trying to stir up the same debates from last year. I just had a few questions . In the hospital, Valjean tells Javery that he needs to settle things with Cosette and then will turn himself in. Except he doesn't. In the sewer, Valjean tells Javert that after he delivers Marius to safety, he will return to serve his time and once again, he doesn't. I'm guessing the book explained why he broke his word twice but I can't even remember it being answered in the musical, either on stage or on film. Samantha Barks sure got a huge break in being cast as Eponine. Does she have any major stage or film projects in the future? One more thing, I recently read that Gavroche revealed that Eponine was his sister after her death scene, but that one line, was cut from the film? Any idea why? It's interesting how much the musical tries to distance Gavroche from the Thenardiers, and I'm not sure why.
