I do think Eve obeys the first law of melodrama, which is that the story is so exciting and involving that you don't notice the inconsistencies or implausibilities until after the movie is over. On first viewing, the impression is that the story is moving fast but not impossibly so, and there is something satisfyingly symmetrical about the tale unfolding over a single season.

Again, when you've watched the movie ten or 50 or 100 times, you begin to notice bits that don't quite hand together, e.g., how come there's snow on the ground in the country near the Richards' weekend house, but the very next day, Karen arrives for lunch at "21" in a lightweight suit, no coat, and light summer furs?
