In his first play written for an ensemble of actors, McNally celebrates the classics, acting companies and The Pearl itself. Directed by Jack Cummings III, And Away We Go is a love letter to theater that has been embraced by audiences and critics alike. Charles Isherwood in The New York Times says “Terrence McNally plants a big wet kiss on his lifelong love--the theatre” in his “frolicsome valentine to the glorious, maddening, demanding world of footlights, spotlights and ghost lights.” Theatremania notes “And Away We Go delivers the goods! It's not hard to imagine the play being studied alongside Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author.” NY Theatre Now says “this brave and well realized taking on of a noted playwright of our times adds immeasurably to this Pearl's luster,” while Lighting and Sound declares that McNally “has done it again, penning an unsentimental ode to the art form he has served so well for over four decades. See it and you'll never again say the words, it’s only a play.” In keeping with the spirit of the play, The Pearl is pleased to announce a new $20 rush policy open to all working theater professionals. Cash only tickets will be available 2 hours prior to curtain, in person only at the box office. Valid ID from Actors' Equity Association (or Equity Member Candidate), Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers, IATSE Local One or Stage Directors and Choreographers Society is required Performances of And Away We Go will now continue through December 21 (see schedule above) at The Pearl Theatre, which is located at 555 West 42nd Street in New York City. Tickets are $65 ($50 previews, $35 seniors) and can be purchased by visiting pearltheatre.org or calling 212.563.9261. $20 student rush, $20 theater professional rush, and $20 Thursday rush are available first-come, first-served pending availability. Times change, but life in the theatre remains the same: chaotic, sometimes brutal but often euphoric, too. And Away We Go jumps through time from backstage in ancient Athens to a rehearsal at The Globe, from Versailles’s Royal Theater to the first reading of a new play by Chekhov – with an unlikely stop in Coral Gables and the American premiere of Waiting for Godot along the way. The cast of And Away We Go features over 30 different characters played by six actors including Pearl Resident Acting Company (RAC) Rachel Botchan, and Pearl RAC member Dominic Cuskern, Obie Award-winner and Pearl RAC member Sean McNall, and Pearl RAC member Carol Schultz, along with Micah Stock and Donna Lynne Champlin. The creative team includes Sandra Goldmark (Sets), Kathyrn Rohe (Costumes), R. Lee Kennedy (Lighting), Michael Rasbury (Sound), Kate Farrington (Dramaturg) and Lloyd Davis, Jr. (Production Stage Manager). About the Artists Terrence McNally (playwright) is a recipient of the Dramatists Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. He has won four Tony Awards for his plays Love! Valour! Compassion! (as well as the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play and the Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards for Best Play) and Master Class and his musical books for Kiss of the Spider Woman and Ragtime. The Kennedy Center recently produced three of his plays under the title Terrence McNally’s Nights at the Opera: Master Class, The Lisbon Traviata, and the world premiere of Golden Age.
