yeah, but the gal's absolutely charming in this sequence...

and as weak as this has otherwise been, thus far, particularly with all the missed beats in the pacing of the acting, it has kind of made the heart soar a couple of times; the Von Trapps traipsing, the sweep of the orchestra (when you can hear it)...

I want to love this but it's hard. The acting is horrible. I feel like everyone is just reciting their lines (Maria and the kids).

Also, the scene where Liesl comes through the bedroom window and accepts Maria's help doesn't work for me. Liesl didn't really put up a fuss about Maria's arrival. They all took to her immediately (no pranks pulled on Maria) so, it's not as touching when when Maria wins them over.

I want to say, "Well, they only had 3 months to put this together" but that is a long time! I'm kind of hoping for a Carol Burnett moment, where they all crack up and can't stop ;o) (just because it's live tv, not because I want them to fail, if that makes sense)

I have only seen the musical once, so I don't remember.

This is the musical and not the movie.
Are there suppose to pranks?

No, in the stage version they take to her right away. No pranks.

Well, not RIGHT away. It takes them joining in to "Do Re Mi" before they really lose their skepticism about her.

Stage vs. film

Oh, good to know (stage version vs. film version). I didn't know they didn't play pranks. After watching the film for the last 40+ years, this version is hard to get used to.

I saw the musical at Paper Mill, and it was odd getting used to.

I hope that the TV audience gives this one a chance. This is not the movie.

I give props to Carrie Underwood for attempting this.
