Who would you prefer to see in the role of Maria (for this production), for those who aren't loving Carrie?

The static noise is driving me nuts, btw. Some of the camera work left me with vertigo e.g. panning the children as they lined up

I don't know that it really calls for an actress so much as a really charming stage personality. Underwood is demure and pretty but she hasn't any sparkle.

The Von Trapps were not pleased with the choice of Underwood

Laura Benanti makes one wish that Hollywood was still making musicals. She is walking away with this.

. . .Robert Wise's sharp direction, the beautiful vistas of the Austrian countryside,a screen the size of Mt. Rushmore and the marvelous Julie Andrews, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is nothing more than a third-rate hackneyed tone deaf operetta. I also believe that reindeer really know how to fly. ps hi there tohshoo. buzzie

"Hackneyed" means that something is "trite, lacking in freshness or effectiveness because of constant use or excessive repetition."

A musical about a guy who falls in love with a woman but can't have because she's married to someone else might be considered "hackneyed." But can you explain how you feel that word applies to a musical about a would-be nun who falls in love with a widowed naval captain with seven children, decides to marry him rather than enter the church, and then has to leave the country with her family to escape the Nazis?

P.S. "Tone deaf?" You gotta be kidding.

I'm actually kind of watching this and in a strange way still enjoying the material, despite all of the execution of it. Yes, execution.
