Taking it on its own terms

It's 2013 and this is the first live television production of a musical in 50 years -- at a time when musicals are on the faraway edge of the periphery of mainstream culture.
So...bravo to everyone for having the courage to do this.
Carrie's singing is knockout. Her acting is tentative but, for me, forgivable. And totally passable.
The rest of the production, and casting, is hard to quarrel with. Moyer and MacDonald -- pretty much perfect. And Kristine Nielsen? Wow! Look what a pro can do with not-very-much of a part.
Yes, the sound mix is erratic. The recorded orchestral tracks are annoying.
But taken on its own terms, I think this production is more marvelous than not.
OK...Act II is underway.
