My Verdict (feel free to disagree)

Posted by: FriendofDorothy 11:09 pm EST 12/05/13

I liked it overall. This production- and any other such live network musical venture- would only be possible with a pop celebrity in the leading role. I can't think of any offhand that have the fans and proven album sales of Carrie Underwood that would be better in the part. Audra and Laura and any other amazing people we love wouldn't be able to play Maria because network brass wouldn't air the show. Getting imperfect lead casting is the price of getting this project done. For those to whom that is sacrilege, don't watch. The rest of us can just enjoy it. It'll never replace our OBCs or Julie Andrews movie, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. And it was nice to see something similar to the stage version (if not exactly the stage version). Thanks to those who made this; hope they do it again next year, with Bajour, of course.
