I don't think there is any single show one needs to see to qualify as a reviewer. And, by pointing out he hadn't seen it before, he allows the reader to draw conclusions (if any) on their own. And the review seems both fair and fairly positive; it doesn't read as if he is harboring any kind of anti-ALW grudge or snobbery. There can be loads of reasons he hasn't seen it before, including just not having gotten around to it yet.
