I, on the other hand, thought her voice was so boring. I wouldn't pick her out to have been a music star at all.

Julie Andrews has ruined that part for everyone else.

Julie Andrews never sang the part on stage. You might as well say that Mitzi Gaynor and Rossano Brazzi have "ruined" South Pacific.

Yes, but I would wager that more people have experienced Julie Andrews in the role over the years than those who saw martin in the original run. THAT's the point.

It would seem that no matter what people thought of her singing, the fact that she is not an actress was not lost on anyone. But Bailey and Lansbury had the acting chops AND the singing chops to take on the roles you mentioned.
