Positive thoughts on Sound Of Music

Posted by: dreamawakening 10:54 pm EST 12/06/13

Enough with the complaining! So Carrie can't act!

There was so much to like and love in last night's airing.

All the theatre pros did amazing work.
Audra alone made it all worth it.
Almost all the musical numbers were really good and fun.
Re watch the scene where the kids sing The Sound Of Music to Laura and you'll be impressed with the staging and editing.
The girl who played Liesl is gonna be a star.
It's so amazing how much so many of those songs hold up so well.

And imagine some kid watching it for the first time and not knowing the definition of jaded.

Imagine how many kids are re watching it all weekend.

If it's still legal, maybe we could say some nice things here!

NBC had 19 million viewers. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of these holiday specials in the future.

Please don't worry about the 'complaining' from us. Who cares if the lead in a musical can act anyway?

Embedded in many of the threads there is praise for many performers and elements, as well as taking on the whole project. Myself and many others have said complimentary things. But there is a lot of valid criticism, too. The "what stupid morons for casting Carrie Underwood" variety some of us find unseemly. But the book scenes suffered, especially for her. I suspect that acting rehearsal took a back seat to the production numbers and blocking. A lesson for the producers for the next time is that the non-theatre performers might need more rehearsal on dramatic scenes. But I was entertained, glad they did it, hope they do it again.

You just ruined my positive thread with all that negativity.

Thanks

friendofdorothy used the phrase "valid criticism" which I consider to be much different from "negativity." Also, the post ended with "But I was entertained, glad they did it, hope they do it again." That's negative?
