For the record, only 3 Grammy nominees is bad news

The Grammys have 82 categories this time out. All of them have 5 nominees apiece - except for 3: Best Engineered Album, Classical, which has 6, and Classical Compendium and Musical Theater Album, each of which only have 3.

And since there were only 3 slots this time, not surprisingly they went to the better-known Broadway hits: ''Kinky Boots'' (Masterworks Broadway), ''Matilda'' (Broadway Records/Yellow Sound) and ''Motown'' (Universal Music).

I'm guessing some of the CDs that missed the cut included Ghostlight's ''Pippin'' and ''Cinderella'' and PS Classics' ''Passion.''

Last year, when this category still had 5 nominees, Ghostlight got a nomination (''Newsies'') and PS Classics got 2 (''Porgy and Bess'' and ''Follies'').

Would it have killed the Grammys to allow Musical Theatre Album to have just as many nominees as the other categories? I fear it's gonna be that much harder for the smaller labels to get any Grammy recognition.

P.S. ''Les Miserables'' was Grammy-nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack.
