Casting 2 unknowns as the leads would have taken guts, but it also wouldn't have been a good long-term strategy. With any new endeavor, you try to increase the odds that it will be successful (and remember that NBC's definition of success is high ratings). Now that the endeavor has been successful and the principle has been proven, they can go out on a limb more. But I don't fault them for playing it safe this time. If they had cast 2 unknowns, gotten a better broadcast but ratings were so bad that no one is going to do this again for 50 years, would that have been a better outcome? Some would say yes, but I'm glad the door is wide open for more to come.
