Oh, I understood why. The Grammys recently went through a giant revamp, consolidating a lot of categories and getting rid of others (and generating controversy among certain branches, like Latin jazz). But the change from upping the number of eligible entries is still an arbitrary number (40, instead of 25). For many years, it was perfectly fine.

My main point was that it was gonna hurt the few smaller producers who still make musical-theater albums. This Grammy is one of the few industry awards that recognize their work.

(The Oscars have a similar rule about the number of eligible animated features, which affects the number of nominees.)
