I know I'm not Julie. Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was ... I know my place," she said.

If I was her, I'd be furious.

She shouldn't have to "know" her place.

She's an entertainer and should be allowed to work on any project she chooses.

As for the von Trapp family wanting Anne Hathway, maybe Anne H didn't want the Julie Andrews comparisons either.

For precedent, see Ronstadt, Linda, Papp, Joseph

Ah, remember when everyone learned that Ms. Rondstadt at age 35 was playing the 17 year-old Mabel in PIRATES? Singing in a voice not known for? Yes, she was loved. But many were appalled by her chutzpah and offended by her acting (they let her singing all but two lines; she was far less accomplished than Ms. Underwood as an actor).

Risk taking is part of the business called Show. Renee Fleming did a rock album.

That's no rock album, lol. I wouldn't call those cheesy easy-listening arrangements rock by any stretch of the imagination, lol.

You are talking about like one spoken dialogue line in each of two acts vs. lots of dialogue for Maria in "SOM".

Ronstadt's singing and presence was enchanting. The funny story is apparently one night apparently forgot her line which, in essence, was to get her sisters off-stage. So she just blanked for a minute and called out "Git!!!".

Yes, they mocked her in "Forbidden Broadway", but her singing was really much more impressive than Carrie Underwood's the other night. Only if there had been more dialogue for Linda would there have been a real problem.

i'd have more respect for her had she referred to her as ms andrews.

>> She's an entertainer and should be allowed to work on any project she chooses.

who saying she can't? no reason to think she should get a free ride. criticism just comes along with the territory.

it would be a shame if she's feeling like a failure, though. it certainly wasn't a star is born moment and i don't think she's been trained adequately to have the kind of chops to come out of this to great accolades but none of the (real) reviews i've read (though it just occurs to me i haven't read that many - i think just the ones linked here) are indicated she made a total ass of herself. on live television that was a possibility. or did i just not red the right reviews?

i got the impression they went pretty much along the lines of what went on here; a couple of oh, my god she's brilliant! (there's always going to be a couple) mostly a lot of close but no cigar and a couple of her performance indicated a new low in civilization (always going to be couple of these as well.)

regardless, i don't see any reason why she should be feeing like a failure. bottom line - she did what she was paid for by bringing in the numbers. if nbc carried the entire night that indicates that a whole lotta people watched (or taped) the entire 3 hours.

Is there a difference between Jesus freaks and Christians, in your opinion? I am, and Miss Underwood is, the latter. Do you think that makes us the former?

And from what I've heard, was pretty good with a live audience.

Plus he was the lead in both "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" and usually never got much criticism for his acting in the book scenes where there were any.

That's what a group of Born Again folks used to say to me and others in pre-show prayer circles of a show I did years ago (not knowing that's how they ran things) to seemingly mask their anti-semitism.
