When Audra was first becoming a big star I was in my early teens and I adored her and especially her first studio album. I still think she is a marvelous stage actress, but to my ears her voice can go from lovley to shrill at the flip of a dime. When she's singing semi-operatic material she sounds divine. When she's singing material that's better suited to a traditional belter, that's when things get a bit shrill for me. These days she's becoming a bit PBS-Pledge-Drivey for my taste, but she remains a class act and great ambassador for Broadway.
