I agree and actually had the same thought re: the decades. Even worse, after the show had their written-in 1980s riff, someone in the audience shouted out "1980s" for the decade. Didn't seem a particularly bright choice.

The only real improv was riffing off of the written "worst things" tags, and those were really no more than random jokes thrown out. In fact, the actors were stumped when the lounge singer character asked for a Christmas song and someone shouted "Do They Know It's Christmas". The actor couldn't recall the tune and there were more jokes about the obscurity of the song than any actual riff on the song.
