I was not as impressed. It is, admittedly, better holiday fare than "Steward of Christendom" at the Taper -- but I wouldn't go so far as "terrific." I thought it was fun. Genuinely. I mean, I laughed quite a bit -- and there were more laughs in the second act than the first. And the ending managed to hit me emotionally, too, which I hadn't expected. But something about it didn't quite gel. I don't know if it was that, for a show that was supposed to have a sort of "hey kids, let's put on a show" feel to it, it felt suspiciously smooth and polished. Or perhaps it was that the girl character was so full of herself I wanted someone to deck her. Couldn't really say where the problem was -- just that, although I absolutely enjoyed it while I was watching it, the whole endeavor seemed to lack charm.
