Looking for LA (Hollywood) theatre recommendations

Posted by: Alison 07:14 pm EST 01/02/14

Hi all!

My parents will be in LA the first week of March, staying in Hollywood (near Hollywood Blvd and the walk of fame). They would be interested in seeing a show while they are there, but aren't very familiar with the city or what is available (and neither am I, their usual theatre expert!). They are more interested in traditional theatre than experimental, but would be willing to try something new if it appealed to them. Plays or musicals would both appeal. Thanks in advance for any help you can give us!

BOOK OF MORMON will be at the Pantages in Hollywood, Barry Manilow's HARMONY will be at the Ahmanson downtown.

The Geffen in Westwood will have Pinter's THE BIRTHDAY PARTY and the Road in NoHo will have a world premiere,SOVEREIGN BODY by Emilie Beck, described as: A wife and mother of two grown daughters welcomes an uninvited ThNksgiving dinner guest. A family's life is forever challenged and changed. Is she losing her mind or is she owning them once and for all? An epic story of a family's journey to healing.

Theatre West and Antaeus will have THE PETRIFIED FOREST and TOP GIRLS, but not until later in March. We saw the reading of TG, which was wonderful. Looking forward to the fully staged production, especially my dramaturg daughter, who is a big Churchill fan.
