Toni Schlesinger's The Mystery of Pearl Street opens Feb 7th

Posted by: Official_Press_Release 07:36 pm EST 01/14/14

On November 7, 1997, Camden Sylvia and Michael Sullivan vanished from their $300 rent-stabilized apartment on Pearl Street in lower Manhattan. Although the landlord still remains a prime suspect, no one has ever been charged in their disappearance and there is still no answer on what happened to the couple. It remains one of the most puzzling unsolved mysteries crimes in New York's history.

On February 7, Toni Schlesinger, the award-winning Village Voice writer and playwright, will present her world premiere, The Mystery of Pearl Street, a three person play on what might have happened.

Dixon Place is pleased to announce the world premiere of Toni Schlesinger’s The Mystery Of Pearl Street based on the real life and unsolved vanishing of two struggling artists from their downtown loft. Set in the mysterious Blue Room, the playwright, performer, and journalist pursues the mysterious disappearance of the couple in 1997 from their loft near the East River on one of the oldest streets in Manhattan. The three-person play, a double mystery, is a wildly visual, psychological, and philosophical exploration of terror, romance, police procedure, money, real estate, and the city's history, from the ruthless colonists and clipper ships to the booms on Wall Street. Pearl Street is finally a story of love and loss, loss that no one saw coming--the oldest story in the book--and the Valentine’s Day dinner when one could not have known what a large and horrific turn life could take.

Toni Schlesinger is the originator of the award-winning Village Voice “Shelter” column that she wrote for eight years, the author of Five Flights Up, and the creator of some 25 original off-off-Broadway plays and monologues. The Mystery of Pearl Street is the February commissioned performance for Dixon Place. - http://tonischlesinger.com/
