Ed Begley took over as Drummond in the original production of Inherit the Wind after having opened the show as Brady (and winning a Tony for the role). But he'd never left the show and had possibly never even missed a performance.

And Peg Murray was Lotte Lenya's understudy in Cabaret and played Fr. Schneider for a couple of periods when Lenya went on vacation.
