She's got a tough road ahead of her-Kelli O'Hara has never won and been nominated four times (a lot of people in the community like and respect her), Sutton Foster is an industry darling as well, and Idina Menzel is no pushover.

And as Reidel notes, a jukebox musical is a tough sell for a Tony. (And this one didn't get nearly the reviews of Jersey Boys.)

I think Kelli O'Hara is the one to watch-she's never won and has garnered a great amount of respect and support in the community. (And should she prove to be effective at playing against type, all the more power to her.)

I found it odd that Riedel would say O'Hara "survived" two Frank Wildhorn shows, when in actuality she joined JEKYLL AND HYDE fairly late in its run (she was still in college when it opened) and was in the chorus/understudying Emma. Being in the chorus of a show that ran for three years doesn't sound like something you "survive", but I guess Riedel thought two examples were better than one. (He could have just as easily said she survived a few flops early in her career and referenced SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS)

I find it unfair that the authenticity of her performance is being pre-judged. Meryl is not Italian (though she speaks the language well), but her performance in the film is quite credible; Kelli O'Hara isn't Meryl Streep, for sure, but she did well playing the Italian Franca in the pre-Broadway engagements of PIAZZA, and looked authentic in a dark wig.

I have to say when I heard Kelli O'Hara is playing an Italian woman I thought she was miscast.

I'm seeing the show on the 28th, so I'll be interested to see O'Hara's take on the role.
