I HATE how the verb "fail" is constantly misused now as a lazy shortening of the noun "failure." Really, it's only three more letters. Are they that difficult to type? Usage rant over.

Not to stir up your rant, but "fail" as a noun is not that new a part of our language's evolution. ("Without fail") Linguistically, the expanded current usage is on sound footing, and is not "misused." If you eliminate laziness as a basis for the evolution of language, we'd all sound like Chaucer still.

"Without fail" sounds fine to my ear. But its ubiquitous use as a noun today just annoys the heck out of me, what can I say?

... don't you mean its ubiquitous use as a noun in 2010?

Just sayin... ;)
