I don't mean any of this to be unkind, but I'm curious about the opinion of other folks on this. I agree with everything written about Benanti and her solo album - she is a stunningly good singer, hilarious and self-deprecating and can make anything sound pretty phenomenally musical AND theatrical. My question is about the 54 Below album of Sierra Boggess. I feel that she is going for the same kind of vibe that Benanti goes for. But whereas I find Benanti charming, I find Boggess and her patter to be...and again, I don't mean to be unkind...a little bit insufferable. I am a big fan of her singing (although her middle voice here is relatively weak, and her approach to the arias borders on the bizarre) and I think her work on the Phantom Anniversary concert is stunning. But I have a hard time with the album. I have listened to Benanti's non-stop - and doubt I will play Boggess' again. Am I alone here?!
