I found it odd that Riedel would say O'Hara "survived" two Frank Wildhorn shows, when in actuality she joined JEKYLL AND HYDE fairly late in its run (she was still in college when it opened) and was in the chorus/understudying Emma. Being in the chorus of a show that ran for three years doesn't sound like something you "survive", but I guess Riedel thought two examples were better than one. (He could have just as easily said she survived a few flops early in her career and referenced SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS) I find it unfair that the authenticity of her performance is being pre-judged. Meryl is not Italian (though she speaks the language well), but her performance in the film is quite credible; Kelli O'Hara isn't Meryl Streep, for sure, but she did well playing the Italian Franca in the pre-Broadway engagements of PIAZZA, and looked authentic in a dark wig.
